Remembrance At 2:00 A.M.

If you are anything like me, sometimes you just don’t want to wake up early and get out of your warm bed in a cold, dark house to pray. But when you break through the resistance of wanting to hang onto sleep, there are jewels to be had – such as this poem that Allah put in my heart this morning!

Remembrance at 2:00 A.M.
by Amina Melody Pryor

I hang onto disintegrating shards of sleep

like an old ratty security blanket

Your voice is so persistent, so sweet

I cannot refuse Your call

I toss and turn in the stormy sea of my mind

there is no rest in the tempest of my turbulent thoughts

You are here in my heart, offering me the

soothing elixir of love and peace

still I think I long for the oblivion of slumber

when it is really annihilation in You that I yearn for

there is no power on earth stronger than the

God-hunger of the soul

You rise me up from self-resistance and throw me down at Your feet

the drop merged with Ocean, Ocean merged with drop

there never was any difference in the clear light of love

only the nightmare of seeming separation

I ride the ship of safety into the dawn

and awake on a safer shore, the shore of al-aminah

    Al hamdhulilah Amina,

This was an amazing poem, it cuts to the chase. Insha’allah you can send it to Sidi, he may put it in one of his books. I would love to print it out and put it in my qibla for inspiration.
